Tips for Keeping Dogs With White Coats Clean and Bright
Share
Dogs with white coats are head-turners. Irresistible and cute, the very sight of them makes you want to reach out and touch them!
Of the hundreds of dog breeds across the world, there are at least a dozen that exclusively sport white coats. That makes them highly sought after. Ensuring they're always crowd-pleasers, means looking after their coats properly.
Help is at hand. Read on for the tips and luxury pet products you need to keep your dog's coat in pristine condition.
Choosing the Right Whitening Shampoos
Not all whitening shampoos are born equal. The active ingredients in them can vary.
Some Whitening shampoos commonly use peroxide while others often include harsh surfactants to break down dirt and stains. These kinds of shampoos can be abrasive, have an acidic pH and cause the skin and coat to dry out.
We would always recommend using a shampoo free of bleach and artificial coat colourings for dogs with white coats. Bathing your dog using Plush Puppy Herbal Whitening Shampoo with Ginseng would be an excellent option.
This shampoo features protein, ginseng extracts and a violet tone that whitens whites. It DOES NOT lighten or bleach but instead tones with optical brighteners. It reduces yellowing or warm tones in white coats or white areas of the coat.
The Ultimate Stain Remover
For really stained areas you can also use our Grooming Team's ultimate stain-removing solution we call the 'Wonder mix'. This is a combination of Wonder Wash and Wonder Blok.
Wonder Blok is an all-natural stain reducer that does not contain bleach or harmful chemicals. It is made from naturally sourced vegetable surfactants and glycerin making it an innovative and gentle approach to traditional stain reduction.
Wonder Wash is a brilliant instant wet spray shampoo designed for the super quick cleaning in moments when a full bath is not an option. It contains optical brighteners and a violet tone to clean and brighten all coats of all colours without bleaching.
DIRECTIONS
- Grab your Wonder Blok and soak it in a small amount of water in the container it comes in. Let it sit and slightly break down while you make your Wonder Wash Solution.
- Now dilute the Wonder Wash 50:50 by mixing 100mls with 100mls of water into a spray bottle. This is enough for a small dog, however, if you have a larger dog or a thicker coat, make a 400ml mix (200ml Wonder Wash : 200ml water).
- Spray your diluted Wonder Wash mix directly onto any stained areas, ensuring you wet them thoroughly.
- Then grab your softened Wonder Blok and rub it into the wet stained areas. Give the area a good massage to ensure you create a lather. Leave it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly and dry.
Is it any wonder we named them Wonder Wash & Wonder Blok? Truly Wonder-ful!
Whitening Maintenance
It makes sense that owners of dogs with white coats may want to wash their dogs more often than those with darker coats. Regular professional grooming and daily brushing should be part of your coat maintenance schedule too.
We've also created Plush Puppy Powder Puff which is a dry cleansing powder and a perfect bathing alternative to wet shampoo. This is a scientific formula using absorbent powders blended with naturally sourced ingredients that remove dirt and moisture from the coat. It also deodorises the coat leaving it smelling fragrantly fresh. Simply apply the powder and brush in where required! Perfect for a quick clean-up when a full bath is not achievable.
Taking a Holistic Approach
Dogs with white coats require a multi-pronged plan of action to keep their fur looking clean and bright. You'll need to stay on top of health issues, especially those related to tears and saliva, that can cause discolouration to the coat.
Mitigating the chance of allergies and feeding your pets a balanced diet of high-quality food will help too. A hands-on approach to grooming is key. Using products proven to keep a dog's coat bright, clean, shiny and white is part of the winning solution.
